The Shabbos after Pesach is known for its special minhag of making shlissel—key—challah.
There are various customs for this unique bread, ranging from baking a real key into a regular loaf, to braiding a key-shaped challah.
And guess what: you don’t have to be a master baker to make these shapes—they can be simple and fun to put together.

Making challah for over 50 years and had such a positive experience!
“Just want to thank you. I have been making Challah for over fifty years and have never had such a positive experience both with the dough and with the Hafroshas Challah. Your instructions are so precise that it was a pleasure to work with the dough. Your Hafroshas Challah instructions really made me feel that I was doing something very holy. May you continue in your special ways and act as an inspiration for Klal Yisroel! May Hashem bless you and yours with all good!”
Gratefully, N. Handel
So relaxing to sit and watch you in your kitchen – I learned so much!
“I found it so relaxing to sit with you and watch you working in your kitchen. Though I am the challah baking type, it was refreshing to watch the pro and learn new techniques. My family was impressed by the large shlissel challos. The taste was great too! As I watched you, I kept thinking, “That makes so much sense…” The challah with three strands came out much nicer, and my husband was happy not to pick it up in 2 broken parts (like in previous years). My friend also took some for her family. She was beyond impressed with the 80% whole wheat shlissel challah that she took home. Thank you!” Debbie Blachor, Israel
